We slept only moderately at
Van Heeckeren Hotel, we have to get used to a different bed, a different room, and a
different environment, and weare tired from the drive to
Ameland.
But the shower is nice and warm.
And the breakfast is also excellent, with delicious espresso, there are plenty of types of
bread to choose from, as well as cheese, cold cuts, fruit, and dairy.
If anything runs out, it's replenished very quickly.
Today's forecast predicts heavy showers, possibly with thunderstorms, in the afternoon.
But before then, temperatures could rise considerably, to above 20°C, and indeed it becomes
quite warm throughout the day.
We decide to cycle to Het Oerd today.
We get there in an hour, and along the way we see two pairs of
pheasants, and also lots of geese,
shelducks, and of course gulls.
It's very quiet along the way; we only encounter a few cyclists.
We climb the Oerd, the highest dune in Ameland and we enjoy the view over the Wadden Sea,
the Oerd and part of the Hon.
There is also a walking route on top of the dune, about 4 km long through the Oerd and along
the Hon.
We are walking the route and see many birds and beautiful views along the way.
On the way back, it is now much and much busier than on the way there, we take a path that
runs along the polder.
In addition to the aforementioned birds, we now also see a
harrier and probably a falcon.
After a while we end up on the bicycle path through the dunes that we also followed on the
way there.
At Nes we sit
for a while on a bench near the beach entrance, eating our sandwiches.
It's quiet on the beach.
We cycled over 20 km and walked 4 km.
Back in Nes we go to the hotel to charge the bikes and to do some shopping at the
Spar, Ameland mustard, beer and wine, Ameland sea salt.
Then we explore the shops in Nes. Pia sees a nice jacket, among other things, but doesn't
buy it.
When we get thirsty we sit down on the terrace of Hotel en
Restaurant De Jong.
And finally, we eat at Hekseketel, Surf & Turf,
and some sole.
The food is delicious, and the restaurant is packed. we're lucky to get a table right away
because there are always people waiting.
After dinner, we watch TV in the hotel.

We tell what we have done and experienced during a trip and we also tell what we think about it; no more and no less.
This is not a travel guide, nor is it advice to visit a place or not.
There are other sites for that.
Our opinion about places where we have eaten, drunk or slept is not intended as a (positive or negative) assessment,
there are other sites for that.
It is our view of the situation at a certain moment and that view is influenced by our mood,
the weather and many other factors.
